How does the glovebox purifier absorb H₂O and O₂, and regenerate?

The Purifier are composed of two materials: Molecular sieves and a Copper catalyst

1)Molecular Sieves: Water Adsorption and Regeneration - A Physical Adsorption Process

  • At lower temperatures (T1), the molecular sieve's water saturation capacity (C1) is high, allowing it to absorb significant amounts of moisture.
  • At higher temperatures (T2), the saturation capacity (C1) decreases, causing the absorbed moisture to be released and evaporated.

Once saturated, the molecular sieve can be regenerated through a combination of heating and vacuum extraction.

2) Copper CatalystOxygen Absorption and Regeneration – A chemical reaction process

  • Oxygen Absorption Process- An oxidation reaction:
    O + 2Cu → 2CuO

  • Regeneration Process: - A heating and a reduction reaction:
    CuO + H → Cu + HO
